                     NOTABLE WEATHER EVENTS

Sep 1 1936
Kansas City received 1.70 inches of rain, more than
that received for the previous three months.
Sep 1 1918 An overnight rain of four and one half inches marked
the transition from a very hot and dry August to a cool September.
Sep 1 1990 It is unusual to have the first 100+ temperature in
September, but this was the case in 1990.
Sep 2 1974 The high was 56 and the low 49, a very cool start.
Sep 3 1947 The high soared to 109 degrees, the hottest September
day since weather records began in 1888.
Sep 7 1914 Thunderstorms drenched the city with 6.12 inches during
the early morning hours.
Sep 12 1977 The infamous Brush Creek flood hit the Plaza, with major
flooding in other parts of Greater Kansas City as well. The "official"
rainfall total is the most ever recorded at the NWS site, but bucket surveys indicated as
much as 16 inches in nearby Independence, MO.
Sep 13 1961 Thunderstorms associated with the remains of Hurricane
Carla produced nearly five inches of rain.
Sep 22 1995 There had not been a September temperature of 32 or
less (since records began in 1888) until this day when it dropped to 31 degrees,
but with little or no frost damage around the area.
Sep 23 1986 Evening thunderstorms produced up to 6.66 inches of
rain in the area, with Richards Gebaur reporting a wind gust of 73 mph..
